Hate Pantyhose? Try Thigh High Hose Instead

Some women simply detest panty hose and for a variety of reasons. For some ladies (especially those who are short waisted), panty hose feel uncomfortable with the high waist design. Other women dislike the pressure of elastic around the waist. Still others find that pantyhose encourage yeast infections, since pantyhose generally do not allow much air flow.

Don’t Let Pantyhose Rule Out Dresses and Other Leg Baring Outfits

Many women who have an aversion to pantyhose simply shift over to pants outfits, which are fine but are limiting especially when selecting business or party clothes. While there are some nice pant style outfits available, there are so many more outfits that would be elegant, professional of fun but do call for some type of leg covering for a finished look.

Pantyhose at Work: A Woman's Bondage or her Best Behavior?

My professional image PowerPoint presentation is over. I've shown slides of women in blue suits, beige blazers, and the sloping curves of cleavage on display. I've explained the difference between men's single-breasted and double-breasted jackets and (attempted to) justify whether men should wear wingtips, cap-toe oxfords, loafers, or some other shoe type on the job.

But now comes the time I most relish: Audience Q & A.

And here we go, the question that is always asked, no matter what:

"Do I have to wear pantyhose?"

Colored tights' timing is right in styling cycle

For years, decades -- maybe even since the invention of tights -- women wore them only with boots or shoes. Pairing peep-toe shoes or sandals with opaque tights was so obviously wrong that it rarely made lists of "don'ts." Such advice was unnecessary, like suggesting women avoid blouses with three sleeves or telling men not to hit the office with their neckties knotted in nooses.

Two years ago, several designers, including Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier, paired colored tights with sandals in runway shows. Actress Mischa Barton and model Kate Moss appeared with the look -- not caught by preying paparazzi on bad days, mind you, but actually posed in fashionable photographs.

Debate '09

If you are going to attempt this combination, allow me to point out a few guidlines. Wear this look with dark tights (preferably brown, navy, charcoal gray, and black), with shoes that are similar in color. You do not want the contrasting colors of your tights and shoes to vary significantly. However, do not match them perfectly (unless it is a black on black variation) because you could end up like Gwyneth below, as a metallic mess.

Pantyhose’s 50th Anniversary

The year of 2009 may be most famous with Barbie’s 50th Birthday, but there is something else that celebrates 50 years of its invention. For every season all of us ladies wear pantyhose, from the sheer in summer nights to the warm detail-oriented in winter cold. In fact, the colder it gets, the more we need our dear friend, the pantyhose, as short skirts and dresses are even lovelier during the winter...

Seamed Stockings - Information On How They Are Made

Stockings have a long and illustrious long history dating back to the 12th century. Interestingly it was not an engineer, but a curate, who facilitated mass production. For in 1589 Reverend William Lee from the village of Calverton near Nottingham invented the framework knitting machine - it was suddenly possible, using the framework knitting machine, to produce stockings in quantity.

Lacy tights are a leg up on style and whimsy

Step aside, serviceable black leggings. This season's most covetable accents are flirty lace tights. The fall runways were awash in giddy options: punky hand-knit tights at Rodarte, punctuated with holes; rose-printed hose at Chloй; and at Emma Cook, fantastical webs of stars, lace and netting.

Silk Stocking Stories

Stockings and suspenders are an essential part of creating a vintage look for a modern gal, but even Dita can’t duplicate the saucy elegance of old photos and the irreverent look of an immoral woman.
